Enhancing a supportive workplace environment with our Maternity Coaching Model for a long-term client partner

MATERNITY COACHING

Background

UKTV commission coaching as an important element in their wider strategy to create a supportive environment for all their employees through their progressive Family Leave and Life Leave policies. Motion Learning has been working with UKTV, providing training and coaching services for over 10 years and has delivered over 200 coaching sessions for their employees.

UKTV wanted to ensure that those due to go on family leave felt supported during this important life transtion and asked Motion Learning to add maternity coaching to the existing coaching and training services we provide.

Our task

UKTV recognises that being an expectant mother is a significant time that not only affects women personally but can also impact how they feel about work (stress, flexibility, management, financial worries etc).

Motion Learning coaches support UKTV employees through this time, empowering them to feel more confident and reassured about their parental transition, family leave and returning to work.

Creating positive change

Drawing upon our years of experience and our proprietary maternity coaching model, we deliver bespoke coaching for UKTV team members over 3 stages: before and during their family leave and upon their return to work. A Motion coach is assigned to each expectant mother to provide support throughout the process, developing a trusting relationship that is tailored to the objectives of the individual.

Results

Our maternity coaching model continues to deliver positive results for both individuals and the leadership teams

The organisation has seen significant benefits before family leave begins:

  • There is increased clarity and commitment in both the short and long term, resulting in productive handovers to interim cover

  • Individuals are better prepared and have greater confidence, embarking on their family leave with heightened purpose, energy and motivation

Upon return to work after family leave, coaching helps create:

  • Increased motivation and desire to return to work

  • Increased commitment and confidence for all stakeholders on agreed return to work plans

  • Better agreed boundaries and aligned expectations for all parties at both work and home

  • Lower levels of return to work uncertainty and anxiety

  • A stronger and mentally healthier employee better placed to take on the demands of working motherhood

I’ve really enjoyed my coaching sessions. I was returning back to work after family leave and also navigating a new flexible approach to working from both home and the office.

Our sessions really helped me clarify what my concerns were and areas I wanted to work on. Each session felt focussed and at the end of each one, I had something practical to try, which made a positive difference in my working life. My coach’s open, honest and illuminating insight helped me realise possibilities for my future and how I want to work going forward.
